Step inside the halfacre greenhouses at Fisherville Greenhouses, and youll discover a thriving variety of crops carefully cultivated by husbandandwife team Cindy and Ron Mueller. Divided into two ranges, the greenhouses are a testament to hard work, innovation, and a deeprooted connection to the land. In the first heated greenhouse, youll find neat rows of hydroponically grown beefsteak and grape tomatoes, English cucumbers, red and yellow bell peppers, and fresh herbs like basil and parsley. Theres even the occasional row of zucchini tucked in. But what really sets Fisherville Greenhouses apart is something unexpected ginger and turmeric. This nowthriving venture began as an experiment. Ginger, traditionally grown in the humid rainforests of Southern Asia, found a new home in the Muellers greenhouse thanks to its warm, humid environment. Unlike the mature, gnarled roots found in stores, their crop yields a fresh, young version called pink ginger. With rosy bud scales, pink ginger is tender, mild, and doesnt require peeling. Its perfect for cooking, pickling, or candying, offering a unique, farmgrown twist on a culinary staple. Both Cindy and Ron come from deep farming roots. Ron was raised on his familys cash crop farm in the Niagara region, and Cindy on a tobacco farm in Delhi, Ontario. Their family farms also raised a variety of animals, including dairy cows, beef cattle, pigs, and chickens, giving them a lifelong appreciation for hard work, sustainability, and growing food with care. At Fisherville Greenhouses, that legacy continues with a fresh twist.
